TRADITIONS...Some Old...Some New...

Decorating Gingerbread...An Old Decker Tradition...

Decorating gingerbread men had been a family tradition since I was little. It is one of our favorites! We were so busy this year that I was afraid we wouldn't get to do it, but we squeezed it into our Christmas Eve activities and I'm glad we did. The kids really enjoyed it, especially Kai who just mostly sat there and ate the cookies. He loved them!

A New Tradition...

I decided that I would start making a special Christmas Eve breakfast. Eric's mom used to make Egg McMuffins and Orange Julius on Christmas morning, so I took that idea and just bumped it up a day earlier.

This was new this year...but I don't plan on it being a tradition...

We usually have a Christmas Eve dinner with family, but this year we weren't doing that so we decided to have our own. I made some ham, potatoes, rolls, etc...and we had a nice little dinner if I do say so myself. I don't love to cook in case you can't tell, but I do it out of necessity.

Coloring Books...A Peterson Tradition

We have a time limit set for how early we will let our kids wake us up to open presents. We always get up bright and early at 6 a.m. Unfortunately, our kids usually wake up much much earlier, hence the coloring book tradition. Every year on Christmas Eve they each get a new coloring book and crayons specifically to be used on Christmas morning until it's time to wake up. It works wonderfully! Our kids get to bunk together in our closet. That way we know where they all are and can be sure we don't have any sneakies in the morning!

The Decker Tradition...The table full of junk from Santa...

This is another Decker favorite. We always get a table full of yummy munchies, sugar cereals, gogurt, pop tarts, etc...All the stuff Mom won't normally buy - it's a Christmas exception. Our kids usually get pretty excited about it (So do we!!!)
